Polysilicon prices keep sliding with a nearly 5% decline
On March 8, the Silicon Industry Branch released the latest transaction price data for polysilicon.
Among them, the average transaction price of recycled monocrystalline silicon material stood at 228,000 yuan per ton, down 4.8% year-on-year; the average transaction price of dense monocrystalline silicon material was 226,100 yuan per ton, a year-on-year drop of 4.76%; the average transaction price of cauliflower monocrystalline silicon material hit 223,100 yuan per ton, falling 4.82% year-on-year.
In the second half of 2022, polysilicon prices remained above 300,000 yuan per ton for a long time, exerting certain impacts on the annual new installed photovoltaic capacity. In 2023, polysilicon prices plunged rapidly and once fell below 200,000 yuan per ton.
Nevertheless, polysilicon prices rebounded quickly above 200,000 yuan per ton during the Spring Festival, even approaching 250,000 yuan per ton and staying at that level until the end of February, far exceeding industry expectations.
Fortunately, March marked another turning point in the supply-demand balance of polysilicon. Its prices have declined for two consecutive weeks, with a nearly 5% drop this week, likely driven by rising polysilicon supply. After nearly two years of capacity expansion, leading enterprises and new market entrants have gradually ramped up polysilicon output to secure adequate market supply.
In the long run, a downtrend in polysilicon prices is inevitable, though short-term price fluctuations may persist.
