Successful Award of Ordos' First Open Bidding Research Project: Lapsen Technology Leads the Intelligent and Green Industrial Upgrade of Submerged Arc Furnace Industry

2022-05-173376

Recently, Beijing Lapsen Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Lapsen Technology) successfully signed the project contract for "Development of Furnace Front Operation Robots for Silicon Alloy Submerged Arc Furnaces" at the signing ceremony of Ordos' first batch of "Open Bidding for Key R&D Tasks". Zhong Haisheng, Chairman of Lapsen Technology, and Qi Zhikun, Technical Director, attended and completed the on-site signing.

The project "Development of Furnace Front Operation Robots for Silicon Alloy Submerged Arc Furnaces" is jointly carried out by Lapsen Technology and Ordos Xijin Metallurgy Co., Ltd. This project takes 25500kW, 36000kW and 45000kW ferrosilicon submerged arc furnaces as application objects. It studies the fault-tolerant control method of the production process under high-temperature and harsh environments, and formulates the robot cluster operation process covering furnace hole tapping, rodding and tap-hole plugging. Physical prototypes of tapping robots will be arranged to conduct application verification and demonstration. All research contents of the project fully meet the scope of technical tackling requirements.

Zhong Haisheng, Chairman of Lapsen Technology, said that furnace hole tapping for ferrosilicon still mostly relies on manual labor. Workers cannot leave the taphole site, so personal safety cannot be guaranteed. The protection level of the working area is insufficient. Any accident during furnace hole tapping will threaten workers' lives. European and American countries first adopted manual silicon alloy tapping, and then developed mechanical tapping machines to improve working conditions. Most domestic furnace front equipment is copied from foreign products. At present, there are no mature furnace front operation robots for silicon alloy submerged arc furnaces either at home or abroad. Therefore, developing robots that can replace manual work and improve operating conditions has become an urgent demand and inevitable trend of the whole industry.

In response to the current production conditions of the submerged arc furnace industry, the state has put forward a set of advanced industrial requirements and vigorously promoted green and safe production among enterprises. Lapsen Technology’s project “Development of Furnace Front Operation Robots for Silicon Alloy Submerged Arc Furnaces” enables robots to replace manual labor to complete furnace hole tapping, rodding and tap-hole plugging.

Automatic and intelligent operations can cut down on on-site operators and safety hazards, while lifting productivity and curbing production costs. This represents an inevitable evolution of submerged arc furnace smelting equipment, and points the industry toward green, automatic, intelligent and safe development.

Lapsen Technology is a pioneer in the submerged arc furnace smelting sector, a leading supplier of industrial automation products and intelligent manufacturing solutions in China. Adhering to the mission of “building digitally transparent factories, replacing human workers with robots, and boosting intelligent manufacturing”, the company devotes itself to developing industrial robots for heavy industries, which are deployed in high-risk scenarios featuring heavy labor, high altitude, high temperature, heavy dust and toxic substances.

The self-developed tapping robots for calcium carbide furnaces allow operators to conduct remote control from central control rooms and have been widely adopted across the calcium carbide industry.

The successful signing of this first batch of “Open Bidding for Key R&D Tasks” project carries important scientific value for studying the industrial ecosystem and operation mode of the silicon alloy industry. It will greatly raise the productivity of silicon alloy submerged arc furnaces, reduce resource waste and environmental pollution, and deliver both economic and ecological benefits. Meanwhile, the project will integrate and optimize social resources to maximize utilization efficiency, build a complete industrial chain for silicon alloy submerged arc furnace robots, and foster new driving forces for economic growth.
