The Enlarged Council Meeting of China Carbide Industry Association (CCIA), sponsored by CCIA, was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on November 12–13, 2019. More than 130 participants attended the conference, including Lu Weidong, Chairman of CCIA; Sun Weishan, Deputy Secretary-General of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and Vice Chairman of CCIA; Zhang Yu, Honorary Chairman of CCIA; Yang Chuanwei, Secretary-General of CCIA; Zhong Haisheng, General Manager of Beijing Lapsen Energy & Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., as well as representatives from domestic calcium carbide manufacturers and supporting institutions.

The two-day conference consisted of seminars and a field visit to a calcium carbide production enterprise, focusing on the following six agendas:

1.Discuss the election of the new CCIA Council for 2020 and revisions to the Association Articles of Association, and report the progress of the association’s institutional reform and decoupling from government authorities.

2.Discuss the R&D and application of new technologies and new equipment for calcium carbide production.

3.Exchange the economic performance of China’s calcium carbide industry in the first three quarters and forecast the market trend of the fourth quarter.

4.Present the progress in compiling group standards such as Calcium Oxide for Calcium Carbide Production.

5.Evaluate submissions from the Essay Contest Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China for the Calcium Carbide Industry.

6.Conduct a field visit to the calcium carbide production base of Sichuan Maoxian New Era Metallurgy Co., Ltd.

The meeting summarized and analyzed the new situation and challenges confronting the economic operation of China’s domestic calcium carbide industry, exchanged information on the R&D and application of new production technologies and equipment for calcium carbide, shared updates on relevant policies as well as the formulation and revision of industrial standards, and discussed and arranged key work plans of the association for 2020.

After the meeting, all visiting representatives took chartered buses to the calcium carbide production base of Sichuan Maoxian New Era Metallurgy Co., Ltd. Amid exchanges among the delegates, the 2019 Enlarged Council Meeting of China Carbide Industry Association came to a successful conclusion.
